Move to Colombia with us

Moving abroad is the biggest life decision an individual makes. Colombia is a beautiful country and offers a combination of lifestyle quality, global connectivity, education, and economic opportunities. It is great for students, entrepreneurs, professionals, and retirees. Moving to Colombia makes people happy, but what makes them sad is the challenges associated with moving household goods. PML ensures you do not face these challenges when relocating your goods. We handle that part for you so your excitement about moving to this developed nation stays strong.

Why is Colombia a Good Choice?

Moving to Colombia is the best decision one can make. Here’s why:

  • Slow Life: The number one factor that makes people shift to Colombia is its family-centric culture. Dinners on Sundays are planned at Grandma’s house, and they like planning parties with cousins, aunts, and uncles. In short, Colombians know how to manage work-life balance.
  • Natural Beauty: Colombia is a naturally beautiful country. There are different plant species, bird species, and insect species that are rare to see in other parts of the world. The nation touches both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. It has snowy mountains, islands, grasslands, and rainforests.
  • Career Opportunities: In Colombia, career opportunities are expanding, driven by MNC expansion, the tech sector, and huge demand for professionals all around the world. English education, technology, sales, and customer service are the high-demand fields. Some of the key industries include mining, services, finance, and tourism.

A Copy of Notarized Passport at a Colombian Notary

The first and foremost document that you’ll need while moving to Colombia is a copy of your notarized Passport at a Colombian Notary. It must include the blank pages. This will confirm your identity and age to import household goods into the country.

Residence Certificate Issued by the Colombian Consulate Abroad

If you are a Colombian citizen, then you have to submit the proof of your residence issued by the Colombian Consulate abroad, i.e., Residence Certificate. This document will declare your residence overseas for 2+ years.

Original Bill of Lading (OBL) / Air Waybill (AWB)

You must have the contract of cargo i.e., Original Bill of Lading, in which all the details of the shipment contract to Colombia are clearly stated.

Working Visa for Each Family Member

The owner of the shipment must have a valid working Visa for a minimum of 12 months. The foreigners and returning Colombian Citizens must have the same for at least 6 months.

Detailed Typewritten Inventory in Spanish Language

When you relocate to Colombia, it is mandatory to have a typewritten list of inventories without numbers and with serial numbers, model, brands, and reference of the electronic goods (no PBO/Packed by Owner).

Diplomatic Permit

Returning Diplomats must acquire a Diplomatic permit from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Declaration of Passengers or Unaccompanied Baggage (Foreigners, Returning Citizens)

A shipper is bound to complete the 530 form “Declaracion de Viajeros O De Equipajes No Acompanados” (for cargo of unaccompanied baggage) when it reaches the airport and get it stamped by the customs authorities at the same time and on the same day. Completion of this form is necessary as it needs to be sent to the clearance agent along with the other documents. Keep in mind that incompletion of this form can result in delay or rejection of clearance.

Keep your mind free from all type of worries and put your entire focus on accumulating important documents only, as we are here for handling all other tasks associated with your move to Columbia with household goods and will not let you down in any manner.

Do's or Don't

Migrating to another country is tedious and stressful when it comes to packing and moving your valuables. Here’s what you should and should not do:

The Do’s

  • Nothing goes right without planning. So, plan your move in advance.
  • To avoid any future obstacles, prepare a checklist.
  • Think about the required things like foam sheets, boxes, tapes, scissors etc. for uncomplicated packing.
  • Make use of solid and durable boxes for maximum safety, as they will hold up through multiple moves.
  • Label each box with appropriate stickers to avoid confusion.
  • Consider zero transshipment to prevent breakage.
  • The vehicle should be ready to cover long distances.
  • Proper insurance of goods should be made to claim your approximate value in case of theft, loss, or a road accident.

The Don’ts

  • Packing in a hurry can lead to damage to goods and skipping on necessary materials.
  • Fragile items should be packed first.
  • Never pack fragile and delicate items with heavier ones.
  • Loose bundling of items or boxes can damage the goods.
  • The mode of transportation should have passed crucial clearance, and proper servicing should be done.
  • At least one personnel of the hiring company should accompany your goods to the destination.
  • Do not hire any relocation company in a hurry; this may result in fake services and false promises (discounts).
  • Avoid renting trucks with less space for a huge volume of goods as this can damage the goods and result in money lost.
  • Do not pack and move your furniture or electrical appliances without dismantling, as this can increase the burden on packing boxes.
  • Never mix up packed and unpacked items together, as this consumes more time.
