International Checklist

3 Weeks
Before The Move
  • Contact the utility companies (electricity, gas, telephone, cable, etc.) and arrange to have your services terminated one day after your move.
  • Contact an expatriate organization at your new destination.
  • Make sure to get the address of your new home updated in your bank details. 
2 Weeks
Before The Move
  • Start eating perishables and food that cannot be moved, throw out and give the rest away.
  • Don't forget the pantry! Begin using up canned and frozen food; only buy items that will be used before the move.
  • Arrange childcare/pet sitters for the moving day.
  • Contact your post office about redirecting your mail to your new address.
The Week
Of The Move
  • Segregate the goods and put the respective stickers on them as per their nature so that the Packers and Movers do not get confused at the time of performing the packing process. 
  • Make sure you have enough medication for two weeks after your move. Discuss your move with your doctor, who may be able to advise you on new doctors or can give advice on finding one.
  • Make sure you have all your documents in one place. Also, keep a spare set of your keys, as you may need them during any emergency.
  • Pack necessary items that you will need at your new home for first few couple of days.
  • Keep some local currency as you may need it when you arrive at your destination.
The Day
Before the move
  • Make sure you have some food and water on hand for moving day.
  • Make sure your important documents do not get packed.
  • Defrost your fridge/freezer.
The Day
of the Move
  • Check and sign the inventory list.
  • When your home is empty, check it again, look inside the cupboards and other hidden places to make sure everything's out.
  • Exchange contact information with the driver and verify that the destination address is correct.
The Day
of the Delivery
  • Check off each item on the inventory list.
  • The destination agent will arrange for the customs clearance
